Travis Cummings, a 20-year-old Haverford resident, is charged with illegal firearm possession, unlicensed carry, evidence tampering, and drug offenses, the DA's Office wrote.
Authorities say Cummings arrived at a woman's apartment on the 300 block of Monroe Street around 11:45 p.m. on May 1. Minutes later, an intruder forced his way through the door and confronted Cummings, "striking" and "grabbing him," according to the release.
Cummings fired a single shot at the suspect's chest and ran out of the apartment, officials said. The man who was shot, later identified as 28-year-old Shafeeq Robbins of Norristown, was pronounced dead at Suburban Community Hospital, they added.
Investigators say Robbins and the woman who lives at the apartment have a 3-year-old child together. The woman also reportedly had a standing Protection From Abuse Order against Robbins, police said.
Detectives claim that surveillance footage shows Cummings stashing something in a white van on Green Street after the shooting. Police later recovered a handgun, crack cocaine, marijuana, and $2,200 cash from the scene, the DA's Office said.
Cummings was arrested "a short time later," prosecutors said. His case details were not immediately available on the state court website on Tuesday, May 2.
In an autopsy on Tuesday, Robbins' death was ruled a homicide. His killing remains under investigation, the DA's Office added.
